President Erdogan slams opposition for misrepresenting Türkiye's agricultural success
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has accused the opposition of distorting the progress made by Türkiye’s agricultural sector, highlighting the country’s growing global influence in food production and exports.
The president made these remarks during an iftar event (the fast-breaking evening meal of Muslims in Ramadan) held at the Beştepe National Exhibition Hall, where he discussed the significant achievements in agriculture under his administration, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.
"Türkiye’s agricultural exports have reached $32.6 billion," President Erdogan stated. "In the last 22 years, we have achieved a foreign trade surplus of $110 billion. We are among the top three global exporters in 13 product categories and supply seeds to 104 countries."
President Erdogan further emphasised Türkiye's agricultural strength, noting that the country’s agricultural potential has expanded across a wide range of products and sectors.
"Those who work in this sector know exactly how things are progressing," he added. "Over the last 22 years, we have allocated 2.07 trillion lira to support agriculture. In 2025, we will allocate 4 billion lira, and by the end of the year, this figure will rise to 135 billion lira. We produce 206 types of agricultural products, and most of them we produce entirely for domestic consumption."
In addition to discussing Türkiye's self-sufficiency in agriculture, President Erdogan pointed to the country's global ranking in key agricultural categories.
"Türkiye is fourth in the world in vegetable and fruit production and second in Europe in egg production," he noted. "These are major accomplishments of our agricultural sector, which the opposition continues misrepresenting."
The president also addressed the government's ongoing efforts to ensure food quality and curb rising prices in the country.
