Presidential rep: Mine contamination hinders reconstruction of liberated territories
Mine contamination hampers the reconstruction process of the liberated territories of Azerbaijan and complicates the process of returning the former internally displaced people to these lands.
Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan in the Shusha region Aydin Karimov made the statement at the conference on mine clearance organised by the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and ANAMA (Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action) in Shusha, Report says.
The special representative noted that the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action is "trying to bring life back to liberated territories" and welcomed the new projects being implemented by ANAMA.
Aydin Karimov said that the liberation of Shusha during the Second Karabakh war was of symbolic importance and the first demining operations began in Shusha.
The special representative spoke about the reconstruction work currently underway in Shusha, noting that this city is very important to every Azerbaijani.
