Pro-Israeli group hacks Iran’s largest crypto exchange Nobitex
A pro-Israeli hacker group calling itself “Gonjeshke Darandeh” — translated as “Predatory Sparrow” — has reportedly followed through on its threat to expose sensitive internal data from Iran’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, Nobitex.
Israeli media reported on June 19 that the group had published the platform’s source code along with other internal documents, claiming to have fully revealed the assets held within the exchange, per Caliber.Az.
Nobitex, a major player in Iran’s digital currency market, has long been suspected by Western intelligence analysts of facilitating transactions that help Iran bypass international sanctions through the use of cryptocurrencies. According to the hackers, their disclosure aims to highlight and disrupt that very system.
“The assets left in NOBITEX are now fully disclosed,” the group wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter), attaching a series of leaked files and codes from the exchange.
The cyberattack on Nobitex comes just two days after the same group claimed responsibility for a major cyber operation against Bank Sepah, one of Iran’s oldest and most prominent financial institutions, which remains under US sanctions.
On June 17, Gonjeshke Darandeh announced on social media that it had “destroyed” the bank’s data infrastructure, marking what they described as a coordinated effort to undermine key pillars of Iran’s financial system.
