Putin announces leadership change in Dagestan
Russian President Vladimir Putin has confirmed that the head of the republic of Dagestan, Sergey Melikov, will step down from his current position and assume a new assignment.
Addressing a meeting with representatives of the regional parliament, Putin noted that Melikov’s term is set to expire in September and acknowledged his contributions during his time in office, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
“He has accomplished a great deal, and we are grateful to him for this. However, he will be moving on to another position,” Putin said.
The president underlined that it is essential for Dagestan to be led by an individual capable of effectively addressing regional priorities, with a clear understanding of ongoing developments and enjoying public confidence.
Following the discussion, the speaker of the regional parliament proposed the chairman of Dagestan’s Supreme Court, Fedor Shukhin, as a candidate for the leadership role.
Putin expressed support for the nomination.
