Qatar, Iran discuss US-Tehran mediation efforts

Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, held a telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to discuss ongoing mediation efforts between Washington and Tehran, according to Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In a statement, the ministry said Qatar reaffirmed its support for diplomatic initiatives aimed at reducing regional tensions and promoting dialogue, Caliber.Az reports per Qatari media. 

"Qatar supports all efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions and reaching a comprehensive agreement that will contribute to strengthening security and stability, as well as sustainable peace in the region," the statement said.

The two officials also exchanged views on recent developments in Lebanon, the ministry added, without providing further details.
