Queen Máxima joins Dutch armed forces reserve amid security concerns PHOTO
Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, 54, has officially joined the armed forces reserve, citing concerns that the nation’s security “can no longer be considered guaranteed,” the Royal House of the Netherlands announced.
Her decision is meant to emphasise the importance of military service. While European royals often undergo military training, it is typically done at a younger age, Caliber.Az reports.

In recent years, several European royals have completed military programs. Norway’s Princess Ingrid Alexandra recently finished 15 months of service. Belgium’s Princess Elisabeth completed a one-year program in social and military sciences at the Royal Military Academy in 2021.
Members of the British royal family have also historically served in the military. Spain’s Princess Leonor joined military training at the General Air and Space Forces Academy and completed her first solo military flight last year.
Máxima is not the only Dutch royal to take up military duties recently. Last month, her daughter Princess Catharina-Amalia was promoted to corporal after completing her training.
The Queen herself has been appointed to the rank of private and began her training on February 4. Upon completion, she will be promoted to lieutenant colonel.
