Romania commits to training Ukrainian F-16 pilots
During the meeting between Romanian President Klaus Iohannis and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Washington, Romania and Ukraine signed a 10-year agreement on security cooperation.
The document outlines Bucharest's commitment, alongside NATO partners, to continue supporting the F-16 training centre for Ukrainian pilots, Caliber.Az reports referring to the official website of the Ukrainian head of state.
Romania will also provide training for Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel, including instructors, and assist in bolstering the Ukrainian military industry.
Furthermore, Romania and Ukraine will collaborate on enhancing security in the Black Sea, particularly in efforts to demine its waters. Bucharest affirmed its backing for Kyiv's aspirations to join the European Union and NATO.
In the event of renewed conflict with Russia, both parties agreed to engage in bilateral consultations within 24 hours to discuss further actions. The agreement also reaffirms Romania's earlier promise to transfer the Patriot air defence system to Ukraine.
