Rubio meets Pakistan PM in Washington, reaffirms security, economic ties
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Washington, DC, reaffirming the two countries’ strategic partnership on security, economic development, and international peace initiatives.
During the meeting, Secretary Rubio expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s support of President Trump’s Peace Plan for Gaza and its role as a founding member of the Board of Peace, Caliber.Az reports, citing the US State Department.
He also extended condolences for the January 31 attacks in Balochistan and the February 6 bombing in Islamabad, emphasising the continued importance of cooperation in counterterrorism efforts.
The officials also discussed economic and energy matters, including Pakistan’s participation in the recent Critical Minerals Ministerial in Washington. Secretary Rubio highlighted opportunities for American investment in Pakistan’s energy and critical minerals sectors, signalling potential growth in commercial and strategic collaboration.
“Met today with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Appreciate Pakistan’s ongoing support of POTUS’s Peace Plan for Gaza and for joining the Board of Peace. In our meeting, we discussed the importance of our strategic relationship on critical minerals development and counterterrorism,” Rubio wrote on X.
