Russia backs North Korea's measures in response to US actions
During a meeting on November 1, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov expressed full support for North Korea’s actions aimed at countering the aggressive policies of the United States.
This sentiment was conveyed following talks with North Korean Foreign Minister Choi Seong-hee, as detailed in a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
The two ministers reached a consensus that the increasing tensions on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia stem primarily from the provocative actions of the U.S. and its allies. The Russian Foreign Ministry stated, “The Russian side expressed full support for the measures taken by the DPRK leadership to curb the aggressive policies of the United States and its allies, thereby ensuring peace and stability in the sub-region.”
Lavrov and Choi reaffirmed their commitment to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty, which aims to elevate the traditionally friendly relations between Russia and North Korea to a new qualitative level. The Ministry noted that both Moscow and Pyongyang share similar views on key international issues.
Furthermore, the ministry emphasized that strategic consultations between the two countries' foreign ministers play a crucial role in enhancing bilateral relations within the framework of their comprehensive strategic partnership. The officials agreed to continue these strategic consultations and to maintain dialogue and exchanges through their respective foreign ministries at various levels.
During their discussions, the ministers also addressed practical matters related to the development of bilateral relations, placing particular emphasis on the agreements made during Russian President Vladimir Putin's state visit to North Korea in June.
Choi Seong-hee expressed the DPRK’s commitment to supporting the Russian military and people in what she termed their "holy war." Since the onset of the Russian "special military operation" in Ukraine, Kim Jong-un has instructed that robust support be extended to Russia.
