Russia begins shipping wheat to Armenia via Azerbaijan
Russia’s Gmelinskaya railway station in the Volgograd region has begun shipping wheat grain to Armenia via Azerbaijan, marking the resumption of a transit route that has been inactive since the 1990s.
The first shipment, consisting of eight grain railcars, is en route to Yerevan station, the railway said, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
By the end of 2025, a total of 30 railcars are expected to be transported along this route, amounting to more than 2,000 tons of grain.
The launch of the new logistics service follows a decision to resume transit cargo transportation to Armenia through Azerbaijani territory, enabling direct rail-based deliveries between the countries.
Earlier this year, grain from Kazakhstan was also transported to Armenia using Azerbaijani transit routes.
