Russia commends organisation of Geneva talks on Ukraine
Russia has expressed satisfaction with the way Switzerland organised the recent Geneva talks on resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
A source from the Russian delegation described the Swiss hosts as “excellent organisers,” adding that the visit and discussions were “arranged impeccably,” Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
The two-day talks, held on February 17–18, brought together representatives from Russia, the United States, and Ukraine.
The third round of talks concluded after nearly two hours.
Russian presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky led Moscow’s delegation, while Ukraine’s Rustem Umerov headed Kyiv’s team. Medinsky described the talks as "difficult, but businesslike," adding that the "next meeting will take place soon."
Umerov said the work was "intensive and substantive," noting, "Some issues were clarified, while others require additional coordination," and stressing the need "to prepare a real, not a formal, foundation for this." He also thanked US mediators and the Swiss hosts: "We are grateful… for providing the platform."
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said there is progress on military issues, including monitoring a possible ceasefire, but political differences remain.
The talks follow two previous rounds in Abu Dhabi, with the Feb. 4-5 session resulting in the first prisoner swap since October.
