Russia, Iran to establish maritime consortium For shipments accross Caspian Sea
A document establishing a Russian-Iranian consortium of shipping companies on the Caspian Sea is expected to be signed within a month, following an agreement reached in Makhachkala.
Saeed Rasouli, Iran’s Deputy Minister of Transport and Urban Development and head of the Ports and Maritime Organization of Iran reported the plan to TASS.
“On November 6–7, a meeting was held in Makhachkala with representatives from Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization, Russia’s Rosmorrechflot, and private businesses. Very good results were achieved, including an agreement that within a month we will prepare and sign a document on the maritime consortium,” Rasouli said.
According to him, the document will cover the development of cooperation in both maritime cargo transportation—with a target volume of 5 million tons—and Caspian Sea tourism.
Earlier, Andrey Tarasenko, head of Rosmorrechflot, reported that negotiations in Makhachkala also addressed the launch of a regular container line between Makhachkala and Iranian ports. He added that details are currently being worked out, including the exchange of information about potential consortium participants from both sides and their authorities.
