Russia: Novosibirsk livestock plummets to 4,000 after mass culling
Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Russia, Roman Nekrasov, reported that just 4,000 head of livestock remain in Novosibirsk Oblast following a mass culling. He stated that existing government support measures will help companies and private farmers preserve incomes and resume production.
“This livestock will be properly vaccinated and ready for use by ordinary citizens who wish to restore their production,” Nekrasov said.
He added that 86% of all losses are linked to registered enterprises, with government aid prioritising private households. Authorities in Novosibirsk Oblast are closely monitoring support for 16 farms that include participants in military operations.
Outbreaks of pasteurellosis among domestic livestock have been reported in Siberia since the start of the year. A state of emergency has been in effect in Novosibirsk Oblast since February 16. The disease has been detected in five districts, with the worst-affected villages being Gnedukhino, Novoklyuchi, Chernokurya, Kozikha, and Novopichugovo. Authorities are compensating farmers for up to half the value of their culled animals.
