Russia’s Kuibyshev oil refinery halts operations after drone strike
The Kuibyshev oil refinery in Russia’s Samara region, owned by Rosneft, has stopped processing crude oil following a drone attack on June 10, two industry sources told Reuters.
According to the report, the strike and subsequent fire damaged both primary distillation units, CDU-4 and CDU-5, each with a capacity of about 10,000 metric tons (73,000 barrels) per day.
The Kuibyshev refinery is part of Rosneft’s Samara refining group, along with the Novokuibyshevsk and Syzran refineries, and is one of the largest oil processing facilities in the Volga region. The Novokuibyshevsk and Syzran plants have also previously been affected by drone strikes. The Syzran refinery has been shut since May 21 and has not resumed operations, while the Novokuibyshevsk refinery, hit on April 18, is operating at reduced capacity, Reuters noted.
In 2024, the Kuibyshev refinery processed 4.7 million tons of oil, producing 0.8 million tons of gasoline, 1.4 million tons of diesel fuel, and 1.3 million tons of fuel oil.
