Russia will not pay for Armenia’s path to EU, MFA says
Moscow does not intend to finance Yerevan’s path toward European Union membership, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova has stated.
At a briefing on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), she said this union is pursuing an openly hostile policy toward Russia and other countries of the world and supports Kyiv, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
“Not only supports it, but finances it,” she noted.
The diplomat stressed that Armenia would not be able to “sit on two chairs” between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the European Union.
“We have heard verbal acrobatics regarding the CSTO, that it is the CSTO that left Armenia. But here it was no longer possible to invent any formulations. The EAEU has not left Armenia,” Zakharova added.
She further emphasised that the Armenian leadership’s approach, “in which Yerevan intends to sit on two chairs, does not suit anyone.”
“I think that in any case, those who started this will have to make a choice. The election campaign has nothing to do with it. It is a matter of clearly defining the course they intend to pursue,” the diplomat concluded.
