Russian border guards to withdraw from Armenia-Iran checkpoint
Press Secretary of the Armenian prime minister Nazeli Baghdasaryan has said that Russian border guards will withdraw from the checkpoint on the Armenia-Iran border.
During a meeting between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Russian President Vladimir Putin, an agreement was reached for the Armenian State Border Service to take over border security duties on the Armenia-Iran and Armenia-Türkiye borders from January 1, 2025. The checkpoint at the Armenia-Iran border will be fully staffed by the Armenian State Border Service, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
Previously, Russian border guards have ceased activity at the checkpoint of Yerevan's Zvartnots International Airport since August 1, 2024. The presence of Russian border guards was established under Article 8 of the treaty between Russia and Armenia dated September 30, 1992.
