Russian court sentences Swedish national in absentia for fighting in Ukraine

A Russian court has convicted Swedish citizen Lind Theodor Per Albin Rovasaari in absentia for participating in the armed conflict in Ukraine, finding evidence gathered by the Investigative Committee of Russia sufficient for a guilty verdict.

Russia’s Investigative Committee stated on Telegram that the investigation and court established that in 2022, Lind joined a Ukrainian armed formation as a mercenary motivated by financial gain.

He underwent military training and was provided with firearms, ammunition, and other logistical support.

Lind has been placed on an international wanted list. The court ordered pre-trial detention in absentia and sentenced him to 14 years in a maximum-security penal colony.
