Russian drone approaches French carrier in Sweden
A Russian drone approached the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle while the vessel was docked in the port of Malmö, Sweden, where it had arrived to take part in strategic military exercises.
According to SVT Nyheter, Swedish armed forces responded to the incident after the unmanned aerial vehicle was detected near the ship. Sources indicated that the drone had been launched from a nearby vessel and moved toward the French Navy aircraft carrier.
The Swedish military reportedly deployed electronic warfare systems to disable the drone. After losing control, the device disappeared from sight, and it remains unclear whether it returned to the vessel from which it was launched or fell into the sea.
The Charles de Gaulle is the world’s largest non-American nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, measuring more than 260 meters in length and capable of carrying thousands of military personnel along with up to 30 fighter jets. The ship is currently moored in Malmö’s port as part of training activities connected to ongoing exercises.
