Russian FM meets Cuban counterpart, pledges support in wake of US pressure
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met with his Cuban counterpart Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla in Moscow, reaffirming Moscow’s support for Havana’s sovereignty and security.
Opening the talks, Lavrov emphasised that all international issues should be resolved through equal and respectful dialogue aimed at balancing interests, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
He praised Cuba’s consistent readiness to engage in such a format.
Lavrov also criticised recent U.S. actions towards Cuba, including a decree labelling the island as a threat to American security.
He described such measures as “completely unacceptable” and stressed that the perceived threat was linked to Cuba’s cooperation with Russia, which the U.S. document labelled a “hostile and malicious state.”
“Let me once again stress the absolute unacceptability of the actions taken by the United States, which issued a special decree declaring Cuba a threat to its security. The decree claims that this threat is enhanced by our cooperation with Russia,” Lavrov said.
He further rejected what he called “fabricated accusations” against Russian-Cuban cooperation, insisting that their partnership posed no threat to the interests of the United States or any other country.
“Of course, we categorically reject the invented allegations against Russia and Cuba, against our cooperation as allegedly creating a threat to the interests of the United States or anyone else,” Lavrov added.
