Russian footballer Simonyan added to Ukrainian Myrotvorets database
Nikita Simonyan, former head coach of Spartak Moscow, has been listed on the Ukrainian website Myrotvorets, a platform that tracks individuals accused of actions deemed hostile to Ukraine’s sovereignty.
Simonyan, along with several other well-known Russian public figures, has been accused on the Myrotvorets website of attempting to undermine Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrityç Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
Simonyan, aged 98, is best known as the all-time leading scorer for Spartak Moscow, one of Russia’s football clubs, with 160 goals scored during his playing career from 1949 to 1959. After retiring as a player, Simonyan also served as Spartak Moscow’s head coach during two periods, from 1960 to 1965 and from 1967 to 1972. He was a member of the Soviet Union’s national team that won the Olympic gold medal in 1956.
Currently, Simonyan holds the position of first vice-president of the Russian Football Union.
