Russian intelligence claims West planning “color revolution” in Belarus
Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) has claimed that Western “democratizing” organizations, including agencies and foundations from the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Poland, and other European countries, are allegedly preparing actions to destabilize Belarus.
According to the SVR, these structures aim to alter Belarus’ constitutional system, weaken the Minsk-Moscow alliance within the framework of the Union State, and hinder Russia’s military operations in Ukraine.
The intelligence service further alleges that Western entities are seeking new “liberal activists” within Belarusian society to implement a so-called “color revolution.” Potential figures include members of the Belarusian opposition residing abroad, particularly in Lithuania and Poland, led by Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya. The SVR says the West plans to conduct a detailed “inventory” of opposition personnel and build a network of individuals “angry at Lukashenko,” with an eye on the 2030 presidential elections.
The statement also asserts that Belarusian society has developed a degree of “immunity” against such attempts. “The West overlooks one important detail. Belarusian society, having overcome the internally orchestrated political crisis of 2020, has gained strong resistance to destabilization efforts. Belarusians have examples in front of them from Ukraine, Moldova, and many other countries, which were destabilized under the guise of defending democracy and human rights, but in reality served Western geopolitical ambitions,” the SVR said.
