Russian, Iranian FMs discuss regional stability, nuclear issues

12 November 2025 18:26

Russian and Iranian Foreign Ministers, Sergey Lavrov and Abbas Araghchi, discussed the Afghanistan-Pakistan border agreement, the ongoing Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and concerns over Iran's nuclear program in a phone call on November 12.

During the phone call, the two ministers welcomed the recent breakthrough between Kabul and Islamabad, facilitated by Qatar and Türkiye, which resulted in a ceasefire agreement aimed at ending border clashes between Afghanistan and Pakistan, Caliber.Az reports per Russian Foreign Ministry.

Lavrov and Araghchi commended the move as a positive step toward regional stability and security, urging both nations to continue dialogue to resolve their disputes through diplomatic and political means.

"They also discussed this situation within the IAEA Board of Governors where France, the UK and Germany have been seeking to launch an anti-Iranian campaign," the statement reads.

The conversation also turned to the escalating tensions in the Middle East, particularly the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Both Lavrov and Araghchi expressed concern over the treatment of this issue within the United Nations Security Council, calling for a more balanced and fair approach to address the situation.

Another significant area of discussion was the Iranian nuclear issue. The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to Iran's nuclear rights, emphasising the importance of maintaining diplomatic channels open to resolve the issue.

Finally, Lavrov and Araghchi reviewed the status of bilateral relations and underscored the importance of fully implementing the Treaty on a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Russia and Iran, which officially came into effect on October 2. Both countries reiterated their commitment to strengthening cooperation across various sectors.
