Russian minister: Dagestan alone cannot handle flood aftermath
Dagestan authorities will not be able to handle the aftermath of recent floods alone due to the scale of the disaster, Russian Emergency Situations Minister Alexander Kurenkov said during a government commission meeting.
To provide immediate assistance to residents affected by the flooding, the Ministry of Emergency Situations dispatched over 20 tons of bottled water to Makhachkala on April 9 via a special flight. The supplies are set to be distributed to the impacted population in the coming days, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
“Additionally, from the reserve of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, we have allocated heat guns, motor pumps, and chainsaws, which will be used during the emergency recovery operations,” Kurenkov added, highlighting the ongoing federal support to aid local recovery efforts.
The minister emphasized that the scale of the disaster requires coordinated federal intervention, as regional resources alone are insufficient to manage the extensive damage caused by the flooding. Emergency Ministry teams are now actively engaged in relief operations to restore essential services and assist affected communities.
