Russian night attacks on Odesa leave 16 injured, cause widespread damage PHOTO
At least 16 people were injured following overnight Russian strikes on the southern Ukrainian city of Odesa, local authorities have reported.
According to Serhii Lysak, head of the city’s military administration, the attacks targeted residential areas and civilian infrastructure across multiple districts, causing significant destruction.
The heaviest damage was recorded in the Prymorskyi district, where a high-rise building and a five-storey residential block were struck. Large fires broke out on the upper floors and the roof, though emergency services later managed to contain the blaze. Several private homes and buildings in the city centre also sustained damage.
Civilian infrastructure was heavily affected. A kindergarten building was severely damaged, while a shopping centre, hotel, and administrative facilities were also hit. In addition, dozens of buses and passenger vehicles were destroyed or damaged at parking sites.
In the Khadzhibey district, strikes targeted infrastructure facilities, warehouses, and a garage cooperative.
Among the injured are a 17-year-old boy and several others, with two individuals currently in intensive care in critical condition. One person has been hospitalised in a trauma unit, while others received medical assistance on-site or were referred for outpatient treatment.
Emergency response efforts remain ongoing, with 68 units of equipment and over 280 personnel deployed to manage the aftermath. Emergency response centres have been set up at impacted locations to provide residents with assistance and consultations.
