Russian orientalist says Armenia will disappear
Yevgeny Satanovsky, president of Russia's Middle East Institute, said in a conversation with Armenian media the previous day that Armenia's withdrawal from the CSTO is inevitable.
"But I don't regard it in any way, because it doesn't play any role anymore. So, Armenia will live separately from Russia, and Russia will live separately from Armenia," he said, Caliber.Az reports.
"The Armenian agenda for the Russian public, I'm afraid, is over. Who can predict what will happen in Armenia's relations with Russia? No one.
There are a lot of countries in the world that are not members of the CSTO and nothing binds them to Russia, for example, on defence issues. This applies to Türkiye. Do we have military bases in Türkiye? Well, no, we don't.
How all this will end is a question of the Armenian leadership. And then it will be a question of the Armenian people.
Pashinyan came to power to withdraw the Russian presence from Armenia so that there would be a NATO bloc in Armenia. How it will end for Armenia, whether there will be an Armenia, he is not interested in it at all. He is similar to Zelenskyy in this respect. They were put in power by the same people and for the same purposes," Satanovsky noted.
According to his assessment, Armenia may turn into a Turkish province.
"I know Erdogan, I understand perfectly well what he says, I see what he does. How can you not see it, not be aware of it?
I believe that Armenia will disappear. And at what price will the corridor through Syunik (Zanegur - ed.) be opened? Will it be at the price that Pashinyan will have a couple of billion dollars in his personal account somewhere in France or the United States, or at some other price? It is unknown," Satanovsky added.
