Russian presidential aide says Ukraine peace talks paused

09 May 2026 17:14

Yuri Ushakov, an aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin, said that trilateral negotiations aimed at resolving the war in Ukraine have been temporarily paused.

“No one has mentioned the negotiations; for now, a pause has been taken,” Ushakov said, adding that no agreements had yet been reached regarding the timing of the next round of talks, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.

He noted that discussions are expected to resume at some stage, although no specific date has been set.

According to Ushakov, all parties understand the steps required before negotiations can continue productively, stressing in particular that the Ukrainian side is aware of what is needed to make the next phase of talks successful.

“It is clear what each side must do before the next round of negotiations. Each side — and I mean primarily the Ukrainian side — knows what needs to be done to ensure the next round is successful,” he said.
