Sanctions prevent Russia from manufacturing “Iskanders”, producing oil
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell is convinced that the current anti-Russian sanctions related to "military operation" in Ukraine affect the country's military-industrial complex and impede oil production.
“If to talk about the military sphere, which is of decisive importance, then due to the sanctions, the ability [of Russia] to produce such precision-guided missiles as the Iskander and the X-101 is limited,” Borrell wrote in an opinion piece for the Japanese newspaper Yomiuri.
He also pointed to the problems that Russia is experiencing in the automotive market and aviation.
It's not just foreign oil-producing companies that are leaving Russia, Borrell said, adding that there are also difficulties with using such advanced technologies as horizontal oil well drilling.
The European diplomat believes Russian companies' ability to implement new fields is limited in the current circumstances.
