Scholz does not think Trump will return to the White House
US President Joe Biden is likely to win future elections for head of state, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz believes, tz.de reports.
According to him, the victory of former US leader Donald Trump looks an unlikely scenario.
"It is more likely that President Biden will be re-elected <...> we are carefully considering scenarios for all international situations," Scholz said at an event organised by the Augsburger Allgemeine.
This is how the German chancellor responded to a question from journalists about whether the German government is prepared for a possible Trump victory. Scholz added that Biden has serious experience in the international arena and will be able to overcome the split within the US.
"If anyone has a chance to overcome this division and resist the split, it is Democratic President Biden," the German Chancellor emphasised.
In the summer of 2023, Trump was indicted in several criminal cases at once, related to the attempted storming of the Capitol in January 2021 and the illegal storage of secret documents in the estate of the former US President in Mar-a-Lago. The politician himself denies his guilt in all cases, calling the investigations against him political persecution by the administration of his successor Joe Biden. According to media reports, Trump warned his supporters that he faces 561 years in prison on all charges.
