Serbia ready to supply EU nations with munitions — President Vučić
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has said that the country’s military stockpiles are “overflowing with ammunition,” and Belgrade is ready to supply European nations with them.
In an interview with Cicero, Vučić emphasised that despite concerns about Serbia’s ties with Russia, the country poses no threat to Europe and, as a major ammunition producer, is ready to supply EU nations, Caliber.Az reports.
“Our warehouses are full of ammunition, and we are producing more, especially mortar shells. We produce more ammunition than France. I do not want to be seen as someone who constantly supplies warring parties with ammunition, but ammunition is needed in Europe. So I offered our friends in the EU to conclude a purchase agreement with us and take everything we have. That would be a phenomenal contribution that we could make to European security,” the president said.
When asked if European buyers might later send the weapons to Ukraine, Vučić said it would be up to them to decide how to use the purchased arms.
He noted that Serbia seeks long-term contracts with European partners and already maintains military cooperation with countries in Africa and Asia.
“I have always said that Serbia is militarily neutral. But we are absolutely ready to cooperate with European armies,” Vučić added.
Belgrade’s plan to sell ammunition to EU countries reflects Serbia’s effort to position itself as a security partner while maintaining its long-standing military neutrality.
The move follows recent tensions with Brussels over Serbia’s limited alignment with EU foreign policy and ongoing scrutiny of its ties with Russia.
Earlier this year, Belgrade faced accusations from Moscow of secretly supplying arms to Ukraine, which it denied but pledged to investigate.
Now, by proposing official ammunition sales to European buyers, Serbia appears to be seeking closer economic cooperation with the EU and a stronger role in Europe’s defence market.
