Tbilisi, Riyadh discuss boosting trade, energy, and technology investments
Representatives of Georgia and Saudi Arabia held talks in Riyadh on expanding bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors, with both sides highlighting the growing political dialogue between the two countries and expressing readiness to deepen economic and cultural ties.
According to Georgian media reports cited by Caliber.Az, the discussions took place during an official visit of the Georgian parliamentary delegation to Riyadh, led by Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the Georgian Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Relations. The visit was made at the invitation of the Saudi Parliament.
As the Georgian Parliament’s press service noted, meetings were held with the Chairman of the Saudi Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee, members of his committee, as well as with the head and members of the Saudi-Georgian parliamentary friendship group.
“During the meetings, the focus was on the development of bilateral relations. The sides noted that the political dialogue between Georgia and Saudi Arabia is at a high level but emphasised the need to intensify cooperation in trade-economic, cultural, and educational spheres,” the statement said.
The Georgian delegation expressed gratitude to Saudi Arabia for its continued support and briefed its counterparts on regional security challenges and Georgia’s progress in economic development.
For their part, representatives of the Saudi Parliament shared information on recent developments in the Middle East, the country’s ongoing governmental reforms, and the implementation of its long-term national strategy, Saudi Vision 2030.
“The meeting also discussed opportunities for the realisation of investments in the spheres of information technologies, renewable energy, and infrastructure construction,” the report added.
The Georgian delegation included Irakli Shatakishvili, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Relations; Vakhtang Turnava, Head of the Friendship Group with the Saudi Parliament; and Viktor Sanikidze, Chairman of the Sports Committee and a member of the Friendship Group.
