Inebriated man attempts to harass Mexico’s president during public walk in capital VIDEO
During a public engagement in the historic downtown area of Mexico City on November 4, President Claudia Sheinbaum was briefly approached by a man who appeared intoxicated and made unsolicited physical contact before being restrained by a government official, AP reports.
A video of the encounter, widely shared on social media, shows the man leaning in as if to kiss the president and placing his hands on her body. Sheinbaum maintained composure, gently pushing him away with a polite smile and responding calmly, “Don’t worry.”
The incident occurred as Sheinbaum, known for her approachable style and frequent interactions with the public, followed her usual practice of mingling with citizens for photos and handshakes — a hallmark of her political image, much like that of her mentor and predecessor, former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
The episode added to an already tense atmosphere in the country, as Sheinbaum continues to face questions about political violence following the recent assassination of a mayor in Michoacán state. Earlier the same day, she met with the slain mayor’s widow to express condolences and discuss government measures to curb violence.
