Shusha poised to become ECO tourism capital for 2026
Shusha, a historic city in Azerbaijan’s Karabakh region, may soon be officially designated as the Tourism Capital of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) for 2026, according to the organisation’s Secretary-General, Asad Majeed Khan.
Speaking at a culinary and gastronomic festival held in the city, Khan highlighted Shusha’s growing prominence as a regional tourist destination. He noted that the city is steadily emerging as a key cultural and tourism hub within the ECO member states, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
An official decision on Shusha’s designation is expected to be made at an upcoming ministerial meeting. If approved, the status would provide an opportunity to promote the city’s cultural heritage, natural beauty, and local hospitality to a broader international audience.
Khan also emphasised the ECO’s commitment to working closely with Azerbaijani authorities to support tourism development and raise Shusha’s profile across the region.
