Spain seeks aid from EU Solidarity Fund following devastating floods
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced the country's intention to request assistance from the European Union Solidarity Fund (EUSF) to address the aftermath of recent floods that have caused significant damage.
Speaking to reporters, Sanchez confirmed that the government is in communication with the European Commission and has initiated the necessary procedures to secure support from the Fund, as well as other available European resources, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
He expressed gratitude to the European Union and various nations that have offered their solidarity during this challenging time.
The prime minister emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in recovering from the disaster's impact, underscoring Spain's commitment to leveraging international support to aid affected communities.
On October 29, Spain's State Meteorological Agency issued a warning of severe weather conditions across various regions of the country due to heavy rainfall. The danger level was elevated to maximum in the southern and eastern parts of the kingdom, with the autonomous community of Valencia being the hardest hit. As of now, the death toll from the floods stands at 211, and search efforts for the missing are ongoing.
