Storm Dave leaves thousands without power across Britain
Thousands of homes across Britain remain without electricity following overnight high winds brought by Storm Dave, with Scotland and the North East of England among the hardest hit.
While three yellow wind warnings across parts of northern England, Scotland, and Wales were lifted a few hours early on Easter Sunday as the storm moved away, disruption continues, Daily Mail reports.
Some Caledonian MacBrayne ferry services on Scotland's west coast were affected, and motorists faced travel difficulties due to fallen trees blocking roads.
Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) said fault response teams are working to reconnect customers mainly in Skye, Caithness, and coastal parts of Aberdeenshire. Meanwhile, Northern Power Grid reported widespread outages across Northumberland, County Durham, Tyneside, and Wearside.
“We’re supporting customers affected by Storm Dave,” the energy firm said in a post on X, adding that teams are “working to restore power as quickly as possible.”
Durham Cricket Club was forced to temporarily close its ground to spectators after the site was left looking like a “war scene.”
