Sweden enhances NATO commitment with fighter jets warships
07 October 2024 20:00
Sweden is set to contribute up to eight fighter jets to NATO's air policing efforts next year, along with several warships and 600 troops that will be deployed alongside NATO forces in Latvia.
The Nordic government, the most recent member to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, detailed its deployment plans for 2025 during a news conference on October 7, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
"This is a historic decision," stated Defence Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard.
"For the first time as an ally, we will contribute armed forces to NATO's collective defence, and we are making a significant contribution to that effort," Minister Stenergard noted.
