Syria opens borders for Red Cross staff to aid Lebanon
Syria will permit personnel of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and their families to travel through its territory in response to Lebanon’s escalating humanitarian crisis.
Saad Baroud, director of the Department of International Organizations at Syria’s Foreign Ministry, told SANA that the government had approved the IFRC’s request to facilitate transit for its staff and their families as needed.
Transit arrangements will be coordinated with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent to streamline travel procedures and ensure the safety of humanitarian workers, Baroud added.
The move comes as Lebanon faces worsening conditions after Israeli military actions earlier this month, prompting significant internal displacement.
The IFRC is a key humanitarian actor in the region, and the Syrian decision aims to support continued relief efforts and safe passage for aid personnel.
