Syria tightens customs law, reinforces ban on Israeli goods
Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa has issued a decree revising the country’s customs legislation, reinforcing a longstanding ban on the import of Israeli goods and maintaining the boycott policy carried over from the Assad era.
According to Syrian sources cited by i24NEWS, the move is also seen as part of an effort to strengthen domestic political support.
“Al-Sharaa seeks to use this strong internal position to justify signing an agreement with Israel in the future,” the source said.
The new legislation, Decree No. 109 of 2026, establishes a revised Syrian Customs Law, replacing earlier regulations.
Article 112 of the law prohibits the import of goods that violate boycott legislation, including measures targeting Israel, as well as items deemed to affect public order. It also prohibits the entry of Israeli citizens into Syrian territory.
