Syria, UAE join forces to strengthen emergency healthcare
Syria’s Ministry of Health has signed a memorandum of understanding with the UAE-based Jaheziya Foundation to launch a joint medical preparedness initiative aimed at enhancing the country’s capacity to respond effectively to emergencies and disasters.
According to the Ministry, the program—titled Jaheziya Syria—seeks to improve the readiness of Syria’s healthcare system through standardized training and comprehensive capacity-building for medical personnel across both public and private hospitals, SANA reports.
The initiative will be implemented in line with international standards and modern scientific methodologies, with a focus on improving coordination and effectiveness during crisis situations.
The project will begin with a three-month pilot phase, during which approximately 200 healthcare workers are expected to undergo specialized training. This initial phase will lay the groundwork for a broader five-year plan focused on sustainable capacity-building and long-term resilience within Syria’s health sector.
Representatives of the Jaheziya Foundation emphasized that the initiative places human capital at the center of emergency preparedness, viewing trained professionals as the first line of defence in times of crisis. The training programs will target a wide range of personnel, including doctors, nurses, emergency and ambulance teams, civil defence staff, as well as medical and administrative leadership.
The Ministry of Health noted that the initiative forms part of its wider strategy to strengthen public health outcomes and support the ongoing development of Syria’s national healthcare system, particularly in the context of emergency and disaster response.
