Tajikistan’s president orders stronger border security with Afghanistan
The President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, has ordered heightened security along the country’s border with Afghanistan following a series of deadly incidents.
According to the Tajik presidential press service, Rahmon met with senior security officials to discuss measures to reinforce border protection.
He strongly condemned the “illegal and provocative actions” of Afghan citizens and instructed authorities to take urgent steps to prevent further incidents.
The move comes after two cross-border shootings in the past week left five people dead and another five injured.
On Sunday, two Chinese road workers were killed in Darvaz in an attack reportedly carried out from Afghan territory. The victims had been working on a small road crossing along the recently constructed Kalai-Khum–Vanch–Roshan border route.
Earlier, on 26 November, three Chinese nationals were killed and another seriously injured during a shooting at a gold processing factory headquarters in the Shamsiddin Shohin district, also allegedly perpetrated from Afghanistan.
The latest incident follows warnings from Beijing urging Chinese citizens to leave the border region after previous attacks along the Tajik-Afghan frontier.
