Talks kick off in Moscow between Russian, Syrian presidents Video

Talks kicked off between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Syria’s interim president, Ahmad al-Sharaa, in Moscow on January 28, marking al-Sharaa’s second visit to Russia in less than four months.

The discussions are expected to focus primarily on the future of Russia’s military bases in Syria, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.

Al-Sharaa first visited Moscow in October, 2025. Interestingly enough, he led a swift rebel offensive in December 2024 that ousted former Syrian President Bashar Assad, whose government had been backed by Russia throughout much of the country’s prolonged and devastating civil war.
