Tbilisi blames Kyiv for unfriendly actions against Georgians From diplomatic strains to controversial appointments
The Georgian government has expressed concern over the unfriendly actions of the Ukrainian authorities against the Georgian people.
For two years Georgia has expressed solidarity with the Ukrainian state and people "as well as condemned Russia's military aggression", including by joining more than 600 decisions of different platforms to support Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, Caliber.Az reports, citing a statement published on the website of the Georgian Cabinet of Ministers.
The Georgian Cabinet of Ministers noted that against this background, the decisions of the official Kyiv, which blatantly contradict the friendship between the Ukrainian and Georgian peoples, cause regret and concern.
The Government of Georgia recalled that former Georgian Justice Minister Zurab Adeishvili, who had been convicted in absentia in his home country in several criminal cases, had recently been part of the Ukrainian delegation and had held high-level meetings in Germany and Belgium. In addition, on March 1, 2022, Kyiv recalled its ambassador from Tbilisi due to Georgia's refusal to join the anti-Russian sanctions and send volunteers to Ukraine.
Tbilisi also accuses Kyiv of expelling the Georgian ambassador on July 3, 2023, due to a biased view of the health condition of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, who is in prison.
In addition, Georgia expressed concern that in addition to Adeishvili, an adviser to the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office, the former deputy head of the Georgian Interior Ministry, Giorgi Lortkipanidze, against whom a criminal case has also been opened in his home country, is now the deputy head of Ukraine's counterintelligence service.
