Life in Georgia getting better: Absolute poverty falls to 9.4%
Georgia has recorded a decline in the level of absolute poverty. According to 2024 statistics, the indicator stood at 9.4%, which is 2.4% lower compared to 2023.
As reported by Caliber.Az citing Georgian media, according to statistics, poverty in rural areas remains higher (11.9%) than in cities (7.8%). The most vulnerable group continues to be youth under 18, with a rate of 12.1%, while among the elderly (65+) it is 6.7%.
For the population aged 18 to 64, the poverty rate is 9.3%. Despite differences between groups, a decrease is observed across all categories. Experts note a positive trend that began after 2012, when the authorities intensified the fight against poverty.
Absolute poverty is calculated based on the cost of the subsistence minimum, and the international standard is defined by a threshold of $2.15 per day.
