Tbilisi hopes Georgia to celebrate EU candidate status soon

08 May 2023 16:03

Revaz Javelidze, the head of the Georgian government administration, has expressed confidence that Georgia would soon celebrate the European Union membership candidate status and congratulated guests on Europe Day marked this weekend in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi.

Javelidze noted Europe Day had a “special place” in the list of Georgia’s annual events, as the “country has been pursuing the course” of EU integration, expressing hope that Georgia would become a member of the EU, Agenda.ge reports, citing a source at the government administration.

He emphasised the importance of developing “very close” cultural relations between Georgia and the EU, noting that the country had a great opportunity to host “remarkable” countries and their representatives within Europe Day celebrations.

Guests tasted traditional cuisine and the celebration of Spanish Day ended with  Spanish choreographer Antonio Gadès company’s performance of flamenco choreographic scenes from various plays.

Marcos Granados Gomez, the Charge' d'Affaires at the Spanish Embassy in Georgia, thanked the Georgian Government for “perfectly” organised Europe Day and welcomed the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Georgia and Spain.

On May 7, Orbeliani Square will host Swedish Day and the guests will have an opportunity to taste the country's traditional cuisine. An exhibition and sale of books by Swedish authors will also be organised and the event will close with the performance of Swedish folk singer Sofia Karlsson and Stockholm-based professional a cappella group Riltons Vänner.
