Tbilisi mayor slams France for diplomatic double standards
Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has accused France of displaying double standards in the wake of recent diplomatic exchanges, highlighting what he perceives as inconsistent approaches to internal and external political matters.
Kaladze’s remarks came amidst heightened tensions following comments made by the US Ambassador to France, Charles Kushner. Kushner criticised Paris for its perceived failure to effectively address antisemitism within its own borders, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.
French President Emmanuel Macron swiftly rebuked Kushner’s statements, deeming them “unacceptable for a diplomat” and urging the ambassador to respect established diplomatic protocols.
Responding to the controversy, Kaladze emphasised the hypocrisy he sees in such exchanges. "Some presume they possess the authority to act with impunity and intrude upon the internal affairs of sovereign nations," he stated. "Yet when confronted with a comparable situation themselves, they are quick to react with indignation, questioning how anyone could possibly interfere in the domestic matters of another country."
