Tbilisi says lack of EU candidate status injustice toward Georgia
Georgia deserved the status of a candidate for EU membership, and the European Commission itself confirmed this with the final assessment of the questionnaire, said the country's Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.
According to him, the country outscores not only Moldova but Bosnia and Herzegovina to get this status.
“Every day when we do not have the status of a candidate is an injustice towards Georgia. We are ahead in points, say, not only in comparison with Moldova but also in comparison with Bosnia and Herzegovina, which became an EU candidate country in December. So in this regard, we have made quite a progress,” Papuashvili said, according to the Georgian "Channel One".
The speaker noted that it is important that the opposition recognizes that Georgia deserves the status of a candidate for EU membership.
He also added that if everyone in Georgia speaks convincingly about this, the government will receive a proper response from the EU.
