Ten tourists injured in bus overturn accident in Thailand
Ten foreign tourists were injured when a tour bus traveling from Krabi province overturned on a highway in Surat Thani, Thailand on April 4.
The incident occurred around noon on Highway No. 44, connecting Krabi to Surat Thani, in the Bang Sawan area of Phrasaeng district, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
According to initial investigations, the unidentified driver of the bus lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and overturn before colliding with a road median. The bus, which bore Bangkok license plates, was carrying 40 foreign tourists along with three staff members.
Emergency responders reported that seven of the tourists sustained only minor injuries, while three others were more seriously injured and required hospitalization. Their identities and nationalities have not yet been disclosed.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident, with a focus on the driver’s actions and potential vehicle malfunctions. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of tourist transportation, especially considering the number of foreign visitors traveling by bus in the region. Local officials have called for increased safety measures to prevent such accidents in the future.
A similar accident occurred in February when 18 people lost their lives and 23 others were injured in eastern Thailand. The incident took place after the brakes of a tour bus failed, causing the vehicle to roll over and plunge into a ditch, according to police reports.
"It was a downhill road and the brakes failed, and the driver lost control of the vehicle before it overturned," said Colonel Sophon Phramaneehe, adding that those who died were adults on a study trip.
