Tokayev outlines Kazakhstan’s economic transformation and transit ambitions
President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting with members of the public in the Zhambyl Region.
According to the presidential press service Akorda, Tokayev spoke about large-scale transformations in the country’s economy: “Kazakhstan is rightfully a golden bridge between East and West. Our task is to use this advantage as effectively as possible.”
He also noted the growth of the national economy: “Over the past five years, national economic growth has amounted to 15.8%, and this year it exceeded 6%. This is the highest figure since 2012. GDP per capita has increased by 47%. Gold and foreign exchange reserves and the assets of the National Fund have reached a record level, exceeding $125 billion.”
This year, the second track of the Dostyk–Moyynty railway line was put into operation ahead of schedule. It is the largest railway project implemented during the years of Independence. In just a few months, an additional 6 million tons of cargo were transported along this line. Construction of the Moyynty–Kyzylzhar section is currently underway.
Tokayev stated that particular attention is being paid to the modernisation of air connectivity: “Thirty-six new air routes have been opened. The implementation of these measures helps strengthen Kazakhstan’s position as a transit hub on the Eurasian continent, which is a strategically important task.”
The head of state added that 90% of the country’s citizens now have access to the internet: “Kazakhstan has become the first state in Central Asia to successfully launch the Starlink system.”
He also noted the country’s significant achievements in the construction sector: “This year, more than 19 million square meters of housing have been commissioned. Thousands of families have obtained a roof over their heads.”
