Torpedo fired from unmanned surface vehicle for the first time in Turkey VIDEO

26 April 2023 14:44

A torpedo launch was successfully carried out from the MIR Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) developed by ASELSAN and Sefine Shipyard for anti-submarine warfare (ASW). Thus, torpedoes were fired from a USV for the first time in Turkey.

Developed within the scope of the contract signed between the Defense Industry Agency and ASELSAN, MIR USV exhibited another important combat capability after its swarm demonstration, defensehere.com reports.

With the ASELSAN Torpedo Swarm System integrated into the MIR USV, light torpedo firing was successfully carried out over the control station on land in the activity attended by the officials of the Defense Industry Agency and the Naval Forces Command. This is the first time a torpedo has been fired from a USV.

While MIR USV is used in anti-submarine warfare duties as its main purpose, it can also be used in missions such as intelligence/surveillance/reconnaissance, protection of critical facilities, and floating platforms, and surface warfare.

The MIR USV, which can attack with light torpedo and ASW rockets against submarines that it detects within the scope of anti-submarine warfare with its sonar and autonomous navigation capability, can also work together with UAVs and unmanned underwater vehicles.

The MIR USV, which was first displayed at sea in June 2022, served together with the ALBATROS-S USVs on the field as a Heterogeneous USV Herd.
