Traffic nightmare: Over 3,000 trucks stuck at Russian-Georgian border
A massive traffic jam of nearly 3,300 heavy trucks has formed at the Upper Lars checkpoint, as drivers face long delays waiting to cross the Russian-Georgian border.
According to reports from Georgian media, the backlog is the result of newly imposed restrictions on heavy truck movement, which were enforced on April 9, per Caliber.Az.
The situation has left thousands of trucks stranded, with no clear indication of when the flow will return to normal.
The electronic queue registered 3,252 trucks by April 12 morning, as drivers wait their turn to pass through the border checkpoint.
The Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Lars route, also known as the Georgian Military Road, is the only overland route connecting Georgia and Armenia with Russia, making it a vital lifeline for trade and transport. However, with the recent restrictions, the already limited infrastructure has been overwhelmed, leaving both drivers and businesses in limbo.
