Death toll in Pakistan train bombing rises to 24 UPDATED
The death toll from the bombing of a train in the Pakistani city of Quetta in Balochistan province has risen to 24, with more than 50 people injured.
The separatist group Balochistan Liberation Army has claimed responsibility for the May 24 explosion, which occurred as a train passed through the city and caused several carriages to derail and catch fire.
Reporting from the site, Al Jazeera’s Kamal Hyder said the device was reportedly planted in a nearby parking area. He added that multiple houses and buildings along the railway line sustained serious damage.
According to local media reports, a state of emergency was declared in Quetta’s public hospitals, with doctors and medical staff instructed to remain on duty.

At least 16 people have been killed and several others injured after a train explosion in the city of Quetta in southwestern Pakistan, according to police.
The blast occurred near the Chaman Phatak area on railway tracks while a passenger train was passing through. Vehicles parked nearby were also damaged, the Associated Press of Pakistan reports.
Geo TV confirmed that more than 20 people were injured in the incident. Rescue teams have been dispatched to the scene, and emergency measures have been declared in local hospitals.
